The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Web-based Injury Statistics
Query and Reporting System (WISQARS) is an interactive, online database that provides
fatal and nonfatal injury, violent death, cost of injury, and fatal injury mapping
data from various trusted sources. Now this information can be accessed on mobile
devices via an app called WISQARS Mobile.
WISQARS can be used to plan injury prevention programs and to educate the public.
The app allows users to filter by cause of death (homicide, suicide, traumatic brain
injury and unintentional injury death) and filter again by sex, race/ethnicity, age
groups, locations and rate type (age adjusted or crude). The app also highlights four
preventable public health problems for quick and easy access within the cause of death
categories: motor vehicle-related injuries, drug poisonings, traumatic brain injuries,
and violence against children and youth.
