If you enjoy discussing challenging pediatric cases with experts and peers while learning and earning continuing medical education credit, then don’t miss the Practical Pediatrics Course, Nov. 7-9, at the Westin Beach Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Fort Lauderdale offers plenty of outdoor fun for families. Water recreation is easy to find along the expansive Atlantic Ocean beaches, and there are plenty of places to play golf and tennis. The weekend course includes half-day sessions to combine education with relaxation and recreation.

Course highlights and faculty include:

  • “Type 2 Diabetes: Diagnosis and Management,” “Delayed Puberty: Normal Variants vs. Pathology,” and “Short Stature: Evaluation and Management,” with Charlotte M. Boney, M.D., of the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University;

  • “Fever and Rash: When to Worry and When to Relax!” “Diagnosis and Management of Tuberculosis Infection in Children: When and How to Use Those New Blood Tests” and “Infection Control in Pediatric Facilities: Evidence and Practice,” with Jeffrey R. Starke, M.D., FAAP, of Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine;

  • “Update on Autism Spectrum Disorder Management for the Pediatrician,” “The 15 Cent Developmental Test: Using Children’s Drawing and Writing Samples in Primary Care Settings” and “Beyond the Basics: Medications for ADHD,” with Karen J. Miller, M.D., FAAP, of Tufts University School of Medicine and Floating Hospital for Children;

  • “Name That Rash: Common Pediatric Dermatology Diagnoses,” “Pustule, Vesicle, or Scale? Superficial Skin Infections in Children” and “Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Hair Loss in Children,” with Kimberly Horii, M.D., FAAP, of Children’s Mercy Hospital;

  • “Update on Gastroesophageal Reflux,” “Early Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease” and “Lactose Intolerance,” with Melvin B. Heyman, M.D., FAAP, of University of California, San Francisco; and

  • “Contraception for Teens: What Are Our Options?” “You Did What?!? Body Art and Piercing in Adolescents,” “Adolescent Challenges in Primary Care” and “Sexually Transmitted Infections in Adolescents,” with Monica Sifuentes, M.D., FAAP, of Harbor UCLA Medical Center/Pediatrics.

Participants can earn up to 17.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 credit. Register by Oct. 10 for early bird rates.
