John Timothy Bricker, M.D., M.B.A., FAAP, of Bellaire, Texas, died May 13 at age 60. Past chair of the AAP Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (1996-2000), he was remembered for compassion and dedication to helping grow the field of pediatric cardiology.
He was director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at University of Texas (UT) Health Medical School and chief of pediatric cardiology at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Before UT, he was chairman of pediatrics at University of Kentucky for seven years.
Dr. Bricker became interested in pediatric cardiology and congenital heart surgery as a medical student at Ohio State University. He completed his pediatrics residency, was chief resident and a cardiology fellow at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. In 2002, he earned his M.B.A. at University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He is survived by his wife, Janet, three children and six grandchildren.
