Tool calculates risk of early-onset sepsis in newborns
from the AAP Division of Quality
From Kaiser Permanente’s Division of Research comes a neonatal early-onset sepsis
calculator. This online tool calculates the probability of early-onset sepsis based
on maternal risk factors and the infant’s clinical presentation.
The calculator is designed for use by clinicians trained and experienced in the care
of newborn infants.
With this tool, the risk of early-onset sepsis can be calculated for infants who were
born at 34 weeks’ gestation or later, and the result produces the probability of early-onset
sepsis per 1,000 babies.
