If one were to look at the many research studies we publish, certain topics seem to increase in frequency reflective of key areas of advancement in pediatric science. These areas have been recognized by Dr. Tina Cheng (Chair of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins) and her colleagues ( 10.1542/peds.2016-3803) who share with us 7 rapidly moving research achievements that will make a difference in how we care for children looking to the future. Topics identified in this special article include new vaccines, cancer immunotherapy, the importance of genomics, identification of early predictors of adult health, the role of social-environmental influences on health, quality improvement science, and dissemination research to lower rates of global poverty. The authors also look at new technology that has enabled these seven achievements to become a reality. If you need to be introduced to any of these discoveries or want an update on where these achievements are heading, check out this article and share what you learn with your patients so they too can better understand where the field of child health is headed.
