Selected lots of benzalkonium chloride swabs and antiseptic wipes are being voluntarily recalled by Dukal Corp. because they may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, which can cause infection in immune-supressed individuals. No incidents have been reported.
The wipes and swabs were manufactured by Jianerkang Medical Dressing Co. and sold over-the-counter and in kits. The list of lot numbers and description of products recalled is available at www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/ucm313912.htm.
Customers should dispose of the products, and distributors should initiate a sub-recall to customers with affected lots. Questions about product handling and returns can be directed to the Dukal customer support at 800-243-0741 or.
