John Connelly, M.D., FAAP, died April 8. He was 59.
From 1976-1984, Dr. Connelly directed the AAP Department of Health Services Development, now called the AAP Department of Research. At the time of his death, he was chief of staff at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and an admiral in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Dr. Connelly was born in Boston and received his medical degree at Georgetown University Medical School. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1961 and then returned to Massachusetts General Hospital where he eventually headed the Ambulatory Division until 1973. He came to the Academy from Loyola University, where he had served as professor and chairman of the Department of Medicine.
