Thomas G. Baffes, M.D., J.D., FAAP, of Park Ridge, Ill., died June 15 at his home. He was 74.
Dr. Baffes was known for his surgical procedure, transposition of the great vessels of the heart, to correct one of the heart defects causing "blue baby" deaths.
He was a member of the AAP Sections on Surgery, Critical Care and Seniors.
He received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1945 and completed an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1946.
He taught in the Tulane department of surgery from 1948 to 1952, then moved to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
